Volunteer Victim Advocate

Supervisor: Advocate Supervisor
Employment Status: Volunteer (Unpaid)
Work Location: Hybrid (Remote & In-Person at One of Our Four Offices)

Position Summary:

At My Covenant Place (MCP), we believe advocacy is more than just a role—it’s a calling. We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Volunteer Advocates who feel deeply moved to support survivors of trauma and violence. This is heart work—an opportunity to stand beside individuals in their most vulnerable moments, offering hope, support, and a path forward.

This volunteer role is ideal for:

  • Retired professionals who want to give back in a meaningful way.
  • Students and aspiring advocates looking for hands-on experience in victim services.
  • Community members who feel called to help survivors reclaim their lives.

As a Volunteer Advocate, you will provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and resource navigation to survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, homicide (including surviving family members), shootings, stabbings, and other violent crimes. You are not just offering information—you are offering presence, compassion, and the assurance that survivors are not alone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer heart-centered emotional support and active listening to survivors navigating trauma.
  • Provide remote or in-person advocacy based on your availability and client needs.
  • Assist survivors in understanding their rights, creating safety plans, and connecting to resources.
  • Educate survivors about protective orders, victim compensation, shelter options, and community services.
  • Accompany survivors to court hearings, medical appointments, or law enforcement interviews, when appropriate.
  • Offer grief support and resource connections to families of homicide victims.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all survivor interactions.
  • Participate in optional peer support, training sessions, or professional development as available.

Qualifications:

  • Must complete 40 hours of victim advocacy training prior to or within the first 90 days of volunteering.
  • Background in social services, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, or related fields is preferred, but not required.
  • A compassionate heart, deep empathy, and a commitment to survivor-centered care.
  • Willingness to volunteer at least 8 hours per month (flexible scheduling available).
  • Must adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards in all survivor interactions.
  • Must pass a background check.
