Are you a graduate student in social work, counseling, psychology, or marriage and family therapy looking for meaningful, hands-on experience in trauma-informed counseling? My Covenant Place (MCP) offers a high-impact counseling internship where students gain real-world experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma in a supportive, professional setting.

This internship is more than a learning experience—it’s an opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of survivors while building practical skills in trauma-focused therapy, crisis intervention, and advocacy. Interns will receive supervised clinical training, professional development, and hands-on client interaction in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and advocacy services to help clients navigate resources.
  • Co-facilitate and eventually facilitate at least two support groups for survivors.
  • Maintain up-to-date records using MCP’s HIPAA-compliant electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Engage in safety planning and crisis intervention to support survivors’ immediate needs.
  • Follow MCP’s Staff Code of Conduct and uphold confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
  • Complete a minimum of 30 hours of domestic violence advocacy training.
  • Attend and participate in clinical staff meetings and ongoing trainings every first Monday.
  • Receive weekly one-on-one clinical supervision with a licensed supervisor (field instructor).
  • Present a client case study at the beginning of the second semester during a clinical team meeting.
  • Submit weekly productivity reports and monthly statistics.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage & Family Therapy.
  • Must be enrolled in a Practicum (Field Placement) Class.
  • Must be in the last two semesters of graduate school.
  • Advanced Standing MSW students will be considered.
  • Must have completed a prior master’s-level practicum placement.
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish) are strongly encouraged to apply.

Internship Requirements:

  • Commit to 16-20 hours per week, preferably spread over four days for greater client consistency.
  • Must work at least one evening shift (until 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.) to accommodate client schedules.
  • Work for two consecutive semesters (minimum 15 weeks per semester).
  • Interns may provide some remote client services, requiring a secure internet connection and a telehealth-compatible device.
